The Pillars

Three pillars. One person.

Presence is showing up fully, in the meeting and in yourself. Performance is executing with intention behind the effort. Integrity is leading as one person, in every room. The pillars are fixed. The work inside them is yours.

Why three

One lever leaves you thinner than you started.

Most leadership advice picks one lever. Be more decisive. Build psychological safety. Master your time. All true, and on its own each one leaves the leader thinner than they started.

The three work as a set. Slowing down with nothing to aim at is drifting. Pushing hard without ever slowing down is burnout. Doing both while being a different person at home is a role you play. Hold all three at once and the work compounds.

Read the essay: what each pillar sounds like in a coaching conversation.

Presence

Showing up fully, in the meeting and in yourself.

Presence is the skill of leaving the conversation in your head and coming back to the one in front of you. Two minutes of grounding before a decision that matters. The pause between stimulus and response that gives you a choice. The capacity to feel what's happening in your body before you act.

Most of us run on autopilot and call it focus.

Performance

Executing with intention behind the effort.

Performance is the discipline of moving the right things forward in the right order, even when the calendar is loud. Owning your calendar. Having the hard conversation on the day it needs to happen. A weekly cadence with the team that compounds trust. Decisions that get faster and carry more weight at the same time.

It's the part other people see. Presence is what keeps it from costing you. When the team, the budget or the time is short, the circle of could and should is the trap this pillar guards against.

Integrity

One you. The same person in every room.

The leader, the partner, the parent. No work self and home self. A life that holds together under pressure instead of splitting in two.

Integrity closes the gap between who you are at work and who you are at home, so leading becomes an expression of who you already are. It shows up in how you handle the lunch meeting, the bedtime story, and the Sunday afternoon when nothing is required of you. When it's real, the team feels it before they can say what shifted.

In practice

Your version of all three, in your words.

In The Foundation, the 90-day 1:1 engagement, we build your own version of the three pillars. Your definition of Presence. Your definition of Performance. Your definition of Integrity. Concrete language you're actually aligned with, that grounds you and walks you toward what you want. By Day 90 it's the structure you carry into the next role, the next team, the next hard decision.

Is it the job, or is it you?
